" Announce the Gospel at all times and when necessary use words you can . " – St. Francisco de Assis
When you think the world evolves linearly, that we are more advanced than our ancestors, we are more evolved than the medieval, think again.
Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, better known as St. Francisco de Assis lived in the twelfth century. A leader of the highest level, with an understanding of human nature, as none of us have.
One day a friend of mine and I were talking about religion, religiosity and miracles, the name of St Francisco came up because he is one of the people to whom the Catholic tradition attributes many. My friend does not believe in miracles, and definitely doesn't believe that St Francisco has done them.
I asked him if he knew him, if he knew of his history, what he had said and what he had done. He knew little.
Of course, who knows little, believes little. I have no doubt that St Francisco did miracles, i'd be very surprised if he didn't!
- How does someone with the charisma, the understanding of the world, of nature, of human nature can not turn everything he touches into gold?
- How can someone like him, with ideas, knowledge and commitment at 120% with a transforming life project can not revive all that is dead and heal all that is dying?
I can hear him now, all the way from the twelfth century: "every hair of yours announces the good news every step, every look , every breath, and every once in a while …. every word as well."
In today's language, rather than " announcing" we would say "communicate". I don't know what you will have to communicate, what your ideas are, your projects, business philosophies. But I know that the way to do this is by following the advice in this marketing genius, from 800 years ago.
