“If the insects disappeared, life as we know it would end in 50 years. If humans disappeared, life would flourish.” – Jonas Salk
This makes me wonder what the heck we’re doing here. What is our purpose as a species? I don’t know. But I know it’s connected to our purpose as individuals.
If you disappeard, would life around you be better? And I’m not talking about your family and friends. Some of these people will miss you. I speak rather of your community, of your circle of influence that extends to all persons with whom you relate any way, directly or indirectly.
Many of the people in that circle of yours don’t even know they are connected to you. They have a common knowledge, or they crossed an idea that you expressed and that was repeated by a stranger in a distant conversation that someone heard.
Even without you knowing, you have a huge impact on the lives of millions of people.
This blog, for example. Can you imagine the impact that the smallest words I write have in the lives of hundreds of thousands of people, and the people with whom they relate? I can’t. And to be honest, it scares me a little.
